TEACHING

Mission Statement

To develop in each student their highest individual potential through balanced repertoire, progressive technique, private lessons and public performances.

Teaching Philosophy

There’s a reason the ancients believed music should be a fundamental part of education. It’s math that comes alive as musical sound. It unites our rational and affective sides, allowing us to encounter the world in a beautiful and powerful way.

Learning to play an instrument is a journey that offers a lifetime of benefits. Among the most obvious is the joy derived from good music and the sense of accomplishment from being able to produce a polished musical performance. Studying an instrument allows students to develop poise and confidence, as well as greater focus, perseverance and determination. The very process that a student undergoes to read notes, assimilate them on an instrument and reproduce the music with both hands, while coordinating between the two hands, requires not only both sides of the brain but, as studies are showing, actually increases cognitive reasoning in young developing brains.

Beyond this and most importantly, young musicians are invited to participate in creating beauty. They develop technical ability that allows them to transform the notes on a page into rich sound worlds that express the most intimate of human experiences.

Currently, I maintain a small private studio. Please contact me to inquire about any openings in my studio or to request a masterclass or lecture.
